To use a secure telnet connection you may use any secure (SSH) telnet program you choose. For a free secure Windows telnet program, see: Download - Info

Once you have downloaded putty.exe:

run it using port 229

enter the host name (or IP address)

click on SSH

Save the profile (if desired, optional)

click Open to establish the connection

enter login and password when prompted

Note: some servers have been upgraded to SSH2. If you find that the settings above do not work for your site, use this procedure to connect using SSH2:

run putty.exe

enter the host name (or IP address)

click on SSH

To the left of this screen you will see a menu, you need to go down the menu to Connection --- SSH. Double-click on the SSH option.

Change the "Preferred SSH protocol version" to 2

Highlight the "Encryption cipher selection policy" to be 3DES

Save the profile (if desired, optional)

click Open to establish the connection

enter login and password when prompted
