  • How do I establish a telnet connection?

    Your site is running on a custom version of Red Hat Linux that requires secure (encrypted) telnet connections (insecure telnet connections are not allowed).

    To use a secure telnet connection you may use any secure (SSH) telnet program you choose. For a free secure Windows telnet program, see: Download - Info

    Once you have downloaded putty.exe:

  • run it using port 229

    putty

  • enter the host name (or IP address)
  • click on SSH
  • Save the profile (if desired, optional)
  • click Open to establish the connection
  • enter login and password when prompted

  • Note: some servers have been upgraded to SSH2. If you find that the settings above do not work for your site, use this procedure to connect using SSH2:

  • run putty.exe
  • enter the host name (or IP address)
  • click on SSH
  • To the left of this screen you will see a menu, you need to go down the menu to Connection --- SSH. Double-click on the SSH option.
  • Change the "Preferred SSH protocol version" to 2
  • Highlight the "Encryption cipher selection policy" to be 3DES
  • Save the profile (if desired, optional)
  • click Open to establish the connection
  • enter login and password when prompted
